![]() Welcome to the SU Scavenger Hunt pageHow to playPlaying is super easy. You will need a digital camera and a place to host images on the net (there are plenty of free places to host pictures; I'll give some links for some later). You will also need to join the SU Scavenger Hunt group so that you can post pictures in the discussion forum which is where the game itself will take place. The game works like this: Someone names an object to be found and all you have to do is go out and take a picture of the object. You must actually take the picture; you can't just go surfing the net for a picture of the object, that isn't any fun at all. Preferably you should include yourself in the picture or something referencing Stumble Upon to prove authenticity; this isn't a requirement but it helps prove the picture is authentic. The object of the game is to have fun though, so the fewer rules the better. Then, if you are the first person to post a picture of the object in the game thread, you get to name the next object to be found. I should also note that the request doesn't have to be an object; you could, for instance, request to see a picture of a fellow stumbler standing on one foot while balancing a bottle on their head. The RulesThe rules are pretty simple. You must take the picture yourself; you can't use an image you found on the net. The picture must be taken for the game - it can't just be an old picture you have on your computer. Also, it would be best to keep the objects rated PG-13 or so, that way we don't offend anyone playing the game. You also can't name an object to be found unless it is your turn; it's only your turn when you are the first person to have found an object. Also, try and keep the requests realistic, don't request something like "I want to see a picture of you on top of Mt. Everest." If an object hasn't been found within three days (this time frame is subject to change), the requester should change their request to something different so the game doesn't come to a standstill. The last rule is just to downsize your image, try and keep the images less than 700 pixels wide; 640X480 is a good size to use.Why should I play?Because it's fun. It's also a fun way to interact and play with your fellow stumblers. Things can get pretty silly sometimes and it's often good for a laugh.Need some help?Need a place to host your pictures so you can post them in the forum? There are a few places online that offer free image hosting on the net. The most popular is probably Image Shack. There are directions on their page, but pretty much all you have to do is press the "browse" button on the page, then find the picture on your computer and hit the host it button. Image Shack then gives you the needed code to post your picture in the forum; you will want to use the code under the "Hotlink your image on your personal website or auction." heading.Have no problem putting the images on the net but don't understand the HTML code to display them? The HTML tag you need is the image tag. It will look like this:
I think that about covers it. I have a feeling I will probably be adding to this page the more the game goes on, but this should be a good start. Help spread the word!If this is something you would like to participate in or you think it looks like fun, help get the word out. Tell your SU friends about it and photoblog the image at the top (or use the smaller one at the bottom) of the page so people find out about it.Moe74 is the brains behind this idea ![]() |
