A Notion of Falseness (GC107GQ)

Official Geocache Page

This is a pretty simple park and grab. When I found the cache my heart sank a bit. It appeared to be filled with really gross brown water. when I actually opened it up though, ready to pour out the water and hoping I could salvage anything that may be inside I found that the container actually had an inner compartment and the brown water was just a trick.

Lafayette History Lesson (GCQJQ5)

Official Geocache Page

I almost stopped and picked this one up on my way to meet up with my brother but he wanted to get going so I had to backtrack and get this one later. There is a plaque at this spot which tells you a bit about the history of Lafayette which was quite interesting. The cache itself was a pretty clever hide but the camo didn’t fool me. Unfortunately, the logbook in this cache was lacking a plastic bag and the container is far from waterproof so I fear what the rains are going to do to the geocache. If I had a plastic bag on me I would have put it in one but I didn’t.

It’s such a happy road.. (GC128M8)

Official Geocache Page

This was a nice simple drive up cache. Although the container was a nano, which can often be a real challenge to find, this one wasn’t too bad. Not much to see at this spot so I signed the log and headed on to the next geocache.

Bailey Walk - Clarence meets George (GC100WZ)

Official Geocache Page

I made it to the end of the Bailey Walk series! I went from just about ready to go home to walking a full mile to do this series of caches. It was worth it though, this is a very fun and challenging series. This was a pretty good hide, the hint states that it is magnetic and there was a quite bit of metal to hide a magnetic cache too. The hider picked a very clever spot to hide it but I did eventually find it.

If you are ever in the area I would highly suggest doing this series of caches, they are quite fun and provide a nice challenge without being overly hard.

Bailey Walk - Bert & Ernie (GC10QKH)

Official Geocache Page

This was easily the most difficult geocache in the Bailey Walk series. I had called my brother earlier in the day about Lucky You! and he called me back as I was making my way to this cache. Turns out that he had DNF’d on this one a few times in the past. That of course made me really want to find it! My Garmin GPS brought me to a tree in the general area. I scoured over the tree and kept on coming up empty. I decided to widen my search and found a likely area. I almost found this geocache by accident. The container is a nano sized “blinky” and when I went to pull on it I wasn’t really expecting it come off in my hand, I thought it was part of the thing it was attached to. A very clever hide!

Bailey Walk - Mr. Potter (GC10R8H)

Official Geocache Page

This was probably my least favorite hide in the Bailey Walk series. I just don’t like having to look in trees for something hanging, I find it annoying. Thankfully this one didn’t take too long to find. I do like that each of the hides in this series have been different and unique though.

Lucky You! (GCG8ET)

Official Geocache Page

For me this geocache should have been called Unlucky You! I searched and searched for this cache. I found all of the spots that the cache description and hint refer to and I still couldn’t find it. I even called my brother who had found this cache in the past and he confirmed I was in the right spot. I have a feeling that this cache is no longer there.

*It has now been almost a month* since I DNF on this cache and contacted the owner. To the best of my knowledge they have not gone and checked on it and the cache remains active. Rather annoying*

Christine’s Creative Memories Cache (GCGF98)

Official Geocache Page

This was a very well hidden Geocache! The cache description states that this one may be tough for the vertically challenged so I was looking in trees, looking up under the bridge which is at the location and I just couldn’t find it. My GPS was consistently pointing me to the same general area so I was focused my search in that area. After probably 20-30 minutes just when I was about to call it quits I decided to check the likely spots one last time. This time I finally located the very well hidden geocache! I sure was happy when I found it, it’s never any fun not finding a cache.

Meridian access (GC135EJ)

Official Geocache Page

This cache is located across the same park as Reed Access. This one was a tough find for me. The posted coords were off by about 20 feet and there are a ton of different possible hiding places. I finally ended up walking away a bit until I had a clear view of the sky and then followed my GPS again. This time it took me to the right spot and I quickly had the cache in hand.

Drop Down (GC14XGP)

Official Geocache Page

This is one of my brothers caches so I had to see if I could figure it out. This one isn’t too hard and once you figure out how to do it the pieces quickly fall into place. I was in Concord for the day and decided I was going to do some caching while I was out there. I followed some previous cachers trails to the wrong side of the hiding location and wasted a bit of time looking around. After I tried looking on the other side I quickly had the cache in hand. It was a fun little puzzle.

Bzerk Park+Rec Orphans #02: Ohlone Park (GCR0K1)

Official Geocache Page

I have driven by this park so many times but I had never actually walked through it. This was a pretty easy find, the GPS coordinates were spot on and the cache was right where I thought it would be.

Ashby Spit Park/Point Emery (GCM48H)

Official Geocache Page

It was starting to get late and my friend and I were both hungry but we couldn’t resist doing one more cache and this one was right on the way. We were bad boys and entered this park after it was closed, probably not the smartest thing but oh well, we didn’t get caught. Once again this cache really made me regret not bringing my flashlight. By now it was very dark outside and there was no mechanical light out in this park and with it being surrounded by water there wasn’t really any city light to help either. We resorted to using the lights from our cellphones again which works surprisingly well actually. It took us awhile to find this cache but my friend finally spotted it.

Talk Like a Pyrate! (Talk Like a Pyrate!)

Official Geocache Page

We continued our way down this outcrop o’ land an’ made our way t’ this Geocache. This cache faces a beautiful harbor an’ wi’ th’ lights an’ th’ water th’ area looked beautiful. We got th’ general area an’ started huntin’. Me buddy be th’ one who came up wi’ th’ find. After findin’ ‘t we then had t’ figure ou’ how t’ open th’ thin’. Thankfully we did.

Punto del Sur (GC10QXE)

Official Geocache Page

We had to make a bit of a judgment call on this one. The area that the cache was hidden in was behind some orange fencing for construction that is going on in the area. We looked around and didn’t see any safety issues with us sneaking in to the area and there wasn’t really anyone around to catch us so we decided to go for it. Thankfully this was a nice easy one so we didn’t have to linger long in the area.

Punto del Centro (GC12GPX)

My 100th find!

After the nightmare of Punto del Norte this was a nice change of pace. I walked right up to this one and found it in a matter of seconds.

Fountain Walk: GCMZ5V

Official Geocache Page

My brother and I had time for one last cache before we had to get back to our day so we decided to go for this one. This is one that I had driven under many times. There is a tunnel near my house and this cache is up on top of the tunnel area. We walked on over and found the pathway that the cache was hidden on. I got lucky and found the cache quite quickly. After that my brother and I decided to head over to Gordo’s and get a burrito.

Laurel Picnic Area: GC13VJR

Official Geocache Page

I grabbed this one as I was making my way around some local caches. This is a nice easy drive up cache that brings you to a trail that I am going to have to check out at some point. When I found the cache and went to sign the log I was quite surprised to find that I was the first person to sign it. Turns out that the cache had gone missing and I was just the first person to find it since it had been replaced.

Risu no Uchi: GC1B34

Official Geocache Page

This cache has a very funny description. The hider talks about a hamster with laser beam eyes that he has left guarding the cache and that you should never wear polka dots while hunting for this geocache. The hide itself was a pretty easy one to find. There was a lot of poison oak in the area but that doesn’t bother me as I am not allergic. When I found this cache, which was a large Tupperware container, the lid was off and the insides were exposed to the elements. Thankfully everything was still in good shape and after I signed the log I put everything back together as good as I could.

Ready, Aim, Splash: GCYRHR

Official Geocache Page

After DNFing on the last two caches I was really hoping that this one was going to be a success and thankfully, it was. Actually, this one was pretty easy. I found the cache in the first place that I looked. It was a nice little spot that I had never seen before and the reason for the cache was to show you the new firehouse that has been built across the street. I took a picture of the fountain that is right near the cache as well as the firehouse.

Indian Bear Lair: GCHPDE

Official Geocache Page

After struggling to find Grotto Rock Park it was nice to have this easy one to follow up with. Between the good given coords and the name of the cache this one was easy to find. I love that there are all these little trails scattered throughout Berkeley that I am sure many people don’t even have any idea exist.
