Donald Lawton Park (GC117FB)

Official Geocache Page

Now this is what I call a micro park, this park is maybe twenty foot square but it’s got a nice bench in beautiful little neighborhood. This hide was a bit hard for me to find, I figured I knew where it would be but it just had to be in one of the last places that I looked.

This is not my beautiful house! (GC1225F)

Official Geocache Page

This was a very fun cache as the final location contains a very cool surprise. The coords were a bit off for me but when you arrive on site it will become pretty obvious where the likely hiding spot is. This cache made me very happy that I have auto routing on my GPS because getting back here without it would be quite the challenge!

Jewel of the Nile (GC13623)

Official Geocache Page

When I arrived at the general area I was a bit worried that muggles were going to be a problem because there were a ton of people around. Once I headed off down the trail to the cache though my fears were quickly eliminated. I headed down the wrong trail at first but quickly noticed my error and backtracked to the right one. Once I arrived at ground zero I was able to quickly locate the cache.

Bzerk Park+Rec Orphans #14: Monkey Island Park (GCWBT6)

Official Geocache Page

My last cache of the night. Pretty simple cache but like most of the other Bzerk Park caches it showed me yet another Berkeley park that I had no idea even existed. I was really hoping to see some monkeys but no such luck :)

Bart: Orinda Station (GCQW1B)

Official Geocache Page

The hardest part of this cache for me was figuring out where to park. Once I changed my approach and found the right place to park this was a pretty easy grab. Get to cross one more Bart cache of my list, still got a quite a few left to do!

Tupperware Signposts: RR Xing (GCRP0N)

Official Geocache Page

The coords for this geocache were a bit off for me but with the help of the hint I was able to find it without too much trouble. The cache location has a pretty interesting history as well.

Flag Hill (GCHY58)

Official Geocache Page

I screwed up on this one. This is a multi cache with a simple puzzle that you need to decipher from a plaque at stage one. I made a silly mistake and screwed up which sent me to the wrong spot for the final stage. As I was looking in the wrong area I had a woman tell me that I was on private property (I really don’t think I was) so when I got back to my car I took a second look at the cache and noticed my error. I backtracked over to the final stage and was able to locate it quickly.

Moraga for under a Million?!? (GC15CEA)

Official Geocache Page

This geocache was hidden by my brother which meant that I had to see if I could find it. It was actually a pretty easy find but a very clever one. Very neat little spot where it was hidden and an unexpected object at the geocache location.

Park Place (GCKQ6K)

Official Geocache Page

This cache is located in a very popular park in Moraga. I got unlucky because there was a big event going on at the park which meant that there were a ton of muggles around. I did get lucky though and was able to quickly find the cache without too many people around looking at me wondering what the heck I was doing. I had to wait a little bit to put the cache back waiting for the coast to be clear.

Richie’s Cache (GC11KV5)

Official Geocache Page

Pretty boring cache here. It is near a nice trail head but you need a permit to hike on it. Quick find though.

Pinehurst Junction (GC11Z8J)

Official Geocache Page

This cache was hidden by my brothers father in law and boy did it give me trouble. Due to all the trees in the area my GPS couldn’t make up its mind and kept pointing me to different areas to search. The hint is that the cache is magnetized but there is a ton of different metal objects around so it didn’t help too much. I actually had my first experience dealing with the cops on this cache. I had parked my car on the side of the road, which was legal, but the cop told me that it probably wasn’t a good idea because it was on a blind turn so he asked me to move it. The bad thing was is that I was trespassing in an area that I knew that I shouldn’t have been in when the cop pulled up. Thankfully he was very cool about it. He had heard of geocaching and didn’t really hassle me at all. After he left I was about to give up but decided to do one last sweep and that is when I found the geocache.

Eastport (GCD0CD)

Official Geocache Page

This cache is a perfect example of why I love geocaching. The location doesn’t look like anything special now but when I read the history of what used to be here it blew my mind. I had driven past this location countless times back in high school and I had no idea that there was once a tunnel here. The cache itself was very well hidden and due to tree cover my GPS wasn’t much help. Thankfully, with the help of the hint I was able to find the cache.

One Degree of Separation: Cloversmom: Claremont #5 (GC10TA1)

Official Geocache Page

Yet another geocache that I have driven past countless times. I decided today was the day to actually make the hike up there and grab it. It was a very nice hike actually and the view up from the cache area is quite nice.

Phoenix Arisen (GCPV5N)

My brother had called me asking me if I wanted to meet him to grab a few caches. Geocaching is always more fun with someone else so I of course said sure. I picked up this cache on my way to meeting him. This cache is hidden at a memorial for the Oakland fire of 1991. I remember the day of the fire very clearly and it was a quite a scary day. I actually knew someone who died in the fire and was killed in the are right near the memorial. I can’t help but think of her every time I drive by.

Claremont Canyon Trailhead (GC15N62)

Official Geocache Page

This was a pretty tricky hide. Due to tree cover my GPS was having a hard time settling down. I resorted to checking out the hint and after that I found it pretty quickly. A very clever hide.

Strawberry Canyon 1: Strawberry Creek (GCYYJP)

Official Geocache Page

I had driven by this geocache countless times but for whatever reasons never had the time to go and pick it up. Today was the day though. I parked at the nearby parking area and made my way to the cache. My GPS wasn’t much help on this one, it was jumping all over the place and seemed to be settling on the wrong side of the trail. The hint for the cache is “Magnetic where you would least expect it.” and there is a lot of metal in the area so it wasn’t helping me at first. When I decided to expand my search area I noticed a bit of metal where I wouldn’t have expected it, reached down and I found the very cleverly hidden cache.

Nancy’s Foothill Birthday (GCVQFC)

Official Geocache Page

This one was made a lot harder because of an event at the Greek Theater which made my approach to the cache much, much more difficult. Thankfully I already did the hard climb when I picked up June’s Cache so from there I just made the relatively easy hike over to this one. There were some security guards and muggles hanging around within eyeshot of the geocache so I had to wait for an opening to find the cache.

Dialect Decay (GCJF7Z)

Official Geocache Page

This was a very tough puzzle for me to crack. All of the information you are given is the title of the geocache and this:

usft ugrvgo shqwh hys ywnf uqzu uvclt
cvca mdx nsy pyl eqj bxgb eiohhicf drid

I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I won’t tell you the solution. I will give you the hint that I got. The first word is “three” and the name of the geocache plays a very important role in solving the puzzle. I worked on this with my mother and when we finally cracked it I couldn’t wait to go out and find it so I did a late evening find on this one. I love the satisfaction I get after completing a tough puzzle.

Gas and Go! (GCRA4X)

Official Geocache Page

I had tried to do this multi-cache a few weeks back but at the first stage there was a man out on his porch who was looking at me like I had just keyed his car so I didn’t want to linger long. At the location is there is an old time gas burning lamp which is kinda neat. I was able to go back today and there was no one looking like they wanted to beat me up so I was able to get the information for the second location. I made the very short drive up to stage two and quickly had the cache in hand.

Cows? In Berkeley? (GCVBWX)

Official Geocache Page

This was a cute little place that I had no idea existed. At the location you will find some steel cow sculptures bordering a Bart track. I got lucky with the find and walked right up to it and found it. I love finding these quirky little places while geocaching. I took a few pictures of the Cows, check em out.
