Geocaching

My very first hide! In the Spot The Seven section of this website I post Jigsaw puzzles to go along with the other puzzles. I have always loved Jigsaw puzzles and I figured that there had to be other cachers out there that loved them too. I had never seen a Geocache puzzle that utilized flash or jigsaw puzzles so I figured it would make the perfect first puzzle.

I spent a very long time making this puzzle work, the vast majority of the time was getting the puzzle to work embedded on the Groundspeak website. I finally got it all working just perfect and submitted the puzzle for review.

I got denied!

The people who run Geocaching.com do not allow embedded scripts or flash on their site (which probably explains why I had never seen a flash puzzle) so I was instantly denied. I appealed asking if I could host the puzzle myself and then just link to it on the cache page. The local reviewer couldn’t authorize that so he told me to contact the bigwigs. As you can probably figure out the agreed to allow me to do it. This is exactly what they said “…we will allow this usage as a one time experiment. It may not be allowed again…”

I am glad they allowed it, I spent a long time putting the puzzle together and I am pretty proud of how it works. I think I did a good job for someone who doesn’t know a lick of Flash. The puzzle isn’t perfect, it is possible to lose pieces, but if you are careful it shouldn’t be a problem.
