Take It Easy (formerly Relaxation) (GCR0Z4)

Official Geocache Page

When I first arrived at the cache site I was a bit mortified, there was ivy everywhere and I ivy hides are never pleasant. Thankfully the cache wasn’t hidden in the ivy and I was able to find it pretty quickly.

Tilden View South (GCV9TB)

Official Geocache Page

I took the direct route to this cache which made it a bit more challenging. I parked on S Park Dr. which takes you to about 500 feet away from the cache. Of course, those 500 feet are straight up! It wasn’t too bad and I could use the exercise. Once I finally did make it up to the top I was treated to some gorgeous views and I was able to quickly find the cache.

Bzerk Park+Rec Orphans #14: Monkey Island Park (GCWBT6)

Official Geocache Page

My last cache of the night. Pretty simple cache but like most of the other Bzerk Park caches it showed me yet another Berkeley park that I had no idea even existed. I was really hoping to see some monkeys but no such luck :)

Bart: Orinda Station (GCQW1B)

Official Geocache Page

The hardest part of this cache for me was figuring out where to park. Once I changed my approach and found the right place to park this was a pretty easy grab. Get to cross one more Bart cache of my list, still got a quite a few left to do!

Park Place (GCKQ6K)

Official Geocache Page

This cache is located in a very popular park in Moraga. I got unlucky because there was a big event going on at the park which meant that there were a ton of muggles around. I did get lucky though and was able to quickly find the cache without too many people around looking at me wondering what the heck I was doing. I had to wait a little bit to put the cache back waiting for the coast to be clear.

Pinehurst Junction (GC11Z8J)

Official Geocache Page

This cache was hidden by my brothers father in law and boy did it give me trouble. Due to all the trees in the area my GPS couldn’t make up its mind and kept pointing me to different areas to search. The hint is that the cache is magnetized but there is a ton of different metal objects around so it didn’t help too much. I actually had my first experience dealing with the cops on this cache. I had parked my car on the side of the road, which was legal, but the cop told me that it probably wasn’t a good idea because it was on a blind turn so he asked me to move it. The bad thing was is that I was trespassing in an area that I knew that I shouldn’t have been in when the cop pulled up. Thankfully he was very cool about it. He had heard of geocaching and didn’t really hassle me at all. After he left I was about to give up but decided to do one last sweep and that is when I found the geocache.

One Degree of Separation: Cloversmom: Claremont #5 (GC10TA1)

Official Geocache Page

Yet another geocache that I have driven past countless times. I decided today was the day to actually make the hike up there and grab it. It was a very nice hike actually and the view up from the cache area is quite nice.

Redwood Valley Railway (GCQ50R)

Official Geocache Page

I had tried for this one in the past but was thwarted because this cache is inside of a park like area which you can only access during business hours. The location for this cache is actually pretty cool. It’s located at the Berkeley steam trains which is a fully functional small scale steam powered train. I had come here a couple years ago for my Nephew’s birthday and it’s a cool place and the little kids absolutely love it.

Stoddard’s Grizzly View (GCYGZG)

Official Geocache Page

I had tried for this cache before in the past but was unable to find it. This cache is located on a small walking trail between some houses and one of the houses was doing some construction and their fence was taken down. Because of this it makes you feel like you are searching in someones back yard as you look for the cache. I felt a bit uncomfortable the first time I was there so I didn’t spend much time looking. After my unsuccessful attempt I went home and read some of the past logs and I found out that the posted coordinates were about 100 feet off. Anyway, to make a long story short, I went back today and focused my search area a bit further west than the posted coords and found the geocache quickly.

Call Dee Cott (GCE340)

Official Geocache Page

I had departed company with my brother from our day of caching in Briones and as I was driving home I decided to pick up one more cache. This is another of those caches that I have driven by countless times. This is a cute little multi cache. At the posted coordinates you find some writing on the wall and then solve a quick and easy puzzle which gives you the coords to the final location. By the time I found the cache it was quite dark outside so I didn’t even notice the in theme hiding spot until a week or so later when I drove by the area again in daylight. I don’t think I would have ever noticed this object if it weren’t for this geocache, pretty cool.

Rebel Alliance (GCN0JF)

There is quite a hike up to this cache up a very steep hill. Thankfully it’s not too long but it will definitely get your calves burning. Finding the cache is simple enough especially with the clue. The best part about this cache was getting down from the big hill. I squatted down with one foot under my body and my other leg out in front of me and slid the whole way down. It was quite fun!

Alhambra Creek Trailhead (GC119JA)

Official Geocache Page

This cache was at the trail head where my brother I parked for our caching trip in Briones. It was a nice easy find and a good start to our day of geocaching in the park.

Phoenix Arisen (GCPV5N)

Official Geocache Page

My brother had called me asking me if I wanted to meet him to grab a few caches. Geocaching is always more fun with someone else so I of course said sure. I picked up this cache on my way to meeting him. This cache is hidden at a memorial for the Oakland fire of 1991. I remember the day of the fire very clearly and it was a quite a scary day. I actually knew someone who died in the fire and was killed in the are right near the memorial. I can’t help but think of her every time I drive by.

LED - Light Emitting Devices (GC13HZR)

Official Geocache Page

The last geocache of the day for me. I had driven past the trailhead that leads to this cache countless times but never explored it. I was surprised at how many trails were actually down here. I made my way down to the cache site, avoiding the massive amounts of horse poop on the trail and was able to find the cache pretty easily.

Claremont Canyon #4: Pawsitively Fun (GC10TAE)

Official Geocache Page

This hide was a lot harder for me because the cache description says that it’s hidden on the right side of the trail but from the direction I came it was on the left side of the trail. Thankfully the coords were pretty good and after a little bit of bushwhacking I was able to find the cache.

Strawberry Canyon 4: Upper Trail-Coin Lover Cache (GCZZ7V)

Official Geocache Page

Having never walked on this trail before it was a very cool place to go. Finding the cache was pretty simple but it was worth the walk to see this beautiful area.

Strawberry Canyon 2: The Connector (GCYYK7)

Official Geocache Page

Red Jeep Travel BugI was able to find a parking place pretty close to the geocache so the hike wasn’t too bad. I did still have to go up a pretty steep hill but it wasn’t too bad. I was quite happy when I opened up the cache and found a Red Jeep Travel Bug, my very first. I didn’t have anything to leave for the Jeep but I took it anyway, I just couldn’t resist. It was kinda funny, someone had gone out of their way to take the Jeep over 100 miles away from the Bay Area and then someone, who never logged it, brought the Jeep back and put it into this cache.

Strawberry Canyon 1: Strawberry Creek (GCYYJP)

Official Geocache Page

I had driven by this geocache countless times but for whatever reasons never had the time to go and pick it up. Today was the day though. I parked at the nearby parking area and made my way to the cache. My GPS wasn’t much help on this one, it was jumping all over the place and seemed to be settling on the wrong side of the trail. The hint for the cache is “Magnetic where you would least expect it.” and there is a lot of metal in the area so it wasn’t helping me at first. When I decided to expand my search area I noticed a bit of metal where I wouldn’t have expected it, reached down and I found the very cleverly hidden cache.

Cows? In Berkeley? (GCVBWX)

Official Geocache Page

This was a cute little place that I had no idea existed. At the location you will find some steel cow sculptures bordering a Bart track. I got lucky with the find and walked right up to it and found it. I love finding these quirky little places while geocaching. I took a few pictures of the Cows, check em out.

Bart: North Berkeley Station (GCQW16)

Official Geocache Page

This was a cache that for some reason I kept on putting off. It was super close to my house, the Bart caches are usually pretty easy finds and can be done really quickly but for whatever reason I had never bothered to pick this one up. Well, tonight I did!
