Before there were these new small digital projectors that are so prevalent today we had CRT projectors. CRT projectors are large and heavy which has made them unappealing to a lot of people. What a lot of people don't realize is that CRT projectors offer some of the best quality that one can get in their home theater. CRT projectors are the only type of projector that can display a true black, there isn't a digital projector out there that can do that.
Only a few companies still make CRT projectors and they are exorbitantly expensive, tens of thousands of dollars. Many CRT projectors started their life in a corporate situation, they were in board rooms and meeting rooms. When digital projectors came out many companies got rid of their CRT projectors in favor of the much smaller and easier to manage digital projectors. This put a lot of great projectors out there on the used market for a tiny fraction of the cost of what they cost new.
Since most people cannot afford a new CRT projector your best bet is to buy one used. On this site I have made shopping for a CRT projector on ebay easy. You will see all of the available CRT projectors for sale, you can break it down by brand or just browse all of the available auctions.
If you are looking for a projector I highly suggest taking a look at a CRT projector. Yes they are big and require a detailed setup but it is all worth it. They are an amazing bang for the buck and in my opinion they still offer the best picture quality available in a home theater. |
